BRUTE CHANT – Killer Each of You upload

I was turned on to BRUTE CHANT (http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Brute_Chant/20275 ) last week (no joke) by a post by Jon Engman ( resume http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Jon_Engman/28257). the track was “Brother / mechanical /”, the lead track off their sole full-length Killer Each of You. further digging led me to a metal distro where the CD was available for purchase. A few days later and here I am, avoiding the humidity and examining this bizarre death metal album. Like… really bizarre. Down to the molecules. the Demilich-as-interpreted-by-their-malfunctioning-robot-selves music, the 1995 CD-Rom artwork that looks like it was designed by your worst nightmare of an “indoor kid”, the translated lyrics that read like a broken English approximation of Whitehouse… it truly feels like a death metal album one hallucinated during a particularly nasty fever dream rather than something that ever really existed. And yet somehow it has made its way to the corporeal realm.  

a must for fans of surrealistic progressive death metal ala Demilich, Pyrrhon, Artificial Brain, Pillory, Disharmonic Orchestra, and the like

this is about as shamefully self-absorbed as it gets, so yeah.

i've decided to do something beyond the pale of retardation and trade mixes with my 16 year old self. 1999 was a pinnacle year in a grand sense, but also on an intensely personal level. not really sure if i've ever truly cast off the effects of that year, and this post is a testament to that i suppose.

NADIR

NADIR was (or is, not sure if they're still around) firmly rooted in the razor wire ball pit that spawned the likes of DISCORDANCE AXIS, TRANSIENT, ROTTEN SOUND, DEFEATIST, and other needle-riffed grind acts. The Communion played with them in 2006 on a bill with ID, ASRA, and THREE FACES OF EVE. All the bands were pretty sweet, but Nadir really stood out as my favorite of the evening.

there's next to no information on the band aside from the afforlinked myspace page and this Metal Rules write up. i've taken the liberty to upload the CDR release with complete artwork. it's a must-listen for grindcore enthusiasts.

LEECH IMPLANT

LEECH IMPLANT was a Long Island based hardcore band in the mid-90s featuring Ron Grimaldi (Deathcycle) on vocals. from the man himself:

"we recorded everything in a 1 take so its raw live and my vox are weird. i remember they asked me to try the vox a 2nd time but i was really hungry and wanted to get bagels so said no and we split. we had a demo which came out a bit better and we recorded a rd song in this session. most of our best songs we never recorded in a studio as we were not very motivated and totally dysfunctional." 

Raw, Weird, and Dysfunctional could've been the title of a full length. the music of LI (see what i did there?) is hard-hitting dirge with sporadic bursts of brutal hardcore and infectious underground metal riffing, with viciously direct lyrics delivered in vocals that alternate between chant-a-long spoken word and spiteful screaming. track 4 (called "no name two" cause there's no title on my sheet) is perhaps the perfect encapsulation of what we're talking about here; a morbid morality tale where workplace listlessness results in sadistic animal cruelty. 

the tracks "Leech Implant" and "?" (called "no name three" here) appeared on a 2 disc collection of mid-90s LI groups on None of the Above.

DEATH KIDS were a local legend of the late 90s east coast death metal boom. a Glen Benton look-a-like had his own pre-teen children act as the avatars of his extreme music aspirations. Recently I came across the band’s second offering, Bleeding and Praying, and just couldn’t pass it up. The benchmarks of this particular wave of underground metal are all present: crude artwork, lyrics leaning heavily on themes of anti-Christianity and lustmord, “slam” riffs, duel guttural/screeching trade-off vocals… but there is an increased appreciation / unease as you realize that 2 out of the 3 involved in the compositions aren’t even in high school (also making the ritualistic snuff film still artwork on the back cover almost putrid in its wrongness).
