NADIR

NADIR was (or is, not sure if they're still around) firmly rooted in the razor wire ball pit that spawned the likes of DISCORDANCE AXIS, TRANSIENT, ROTTEN SOUND, DEFEATIST, and other needle-riffed grind acts. The Communion played with them in 2006 on a bill with ID, ASRA, and THREE FACES OF EVE. All the bands were pretty sweet, but Nadir really stood out as my favorite of the evening.

there's next to no information on the band aside from the afforlinked myspace page and this Metal Rules write up. i've taken the liberty to upload the CDR release with complete artwork. it's a must-listen for grindcore enthusiasts.

LEECH IMPLANT

LEECH IMPLANT was a Long Island based hardcore band in the mid-90s featuring Ron Grimaldi (Deathcycle) on vocals. from the man himself:

"we recorded everything in a 1 take so its raw live and my vox are weird. i remember they asked me to try the vox a 2nd time but i was really hungry and wanted to get bagels so said no and we split. we had a demo which came out a bit better and we recorded a rd song in this session. most of our best songs we never recorded in a studio as we were not very motivated and totally dysfunctional." 

Raw, Weird, and Dysfunctional could've been the title of a full length. the music of LI (see what i did there?) is hard-hitting dirge with sporadic bursts of brutal hardcore and infectious underground metal riffing, with viciously direct lyrics delivered in vocals that alternate between chant-a-long spoken word and spiteful screaming. track 4 (called "no name two" cause there's no title on my sheet) is perhaps the perfect encapsulation of what we're talking about here; a morbid morality tale where workplace listlessness results in sadistic animal cruelty. 

the tracks "Leech Implant" and "?" (called "no name three" here) appeared on a 2 disc collection of mid-90s LI groups on None of the Above.
