DEATH KIDS were a local legend of the late 90s east coast death metal
boom. a Glen Benton look-a-like had his own pre-teen children
act as the avatars of his extreme music aspirations. Recently I came across the
band’s second offering, Bleeding and
Praying, and just couldn’t pass it up. The benchmarks of this particular
wave of underground metal are all present: crude artwork, lyrics leaning
heavily on themes of anti-Christianity and lustmord, “slam” riffs, duel guttural/screeching
trade-off vocals… but there is an increased appreciation / unease as you
realize that 2 out of the 3 involved in the compositions aren’t even in high
school (also making the ritualistic snuff film still artwork on the back cover
almost putrid in its wrongness).
You be the judge I guess;
