I ridiculed them. Right up until the tide swung last night sometime around 830 pm, where as my fiancé and i sat on the sofa watching in increasing horror, i believed it couldn't actually be like that, not to that extent, not like they were saying; how a country masquerading christian values (lol) upholds the opposite, a self-driven, me-first mentality, afraid of its own shadow, at the cost of all who don't harbor their true feelings only behind closed doors. I honestly can't imagine how people who feel like that live through day in day out. It seems like a kind of sadness i can't imagine wanting to have to live to carry around, and in seeing it plainer even than i'd ever now, i am thankful i don't feel it in me. There's that at least. That's not my blood. And there are plenty of others who don't have that blood either. A different love. But so now, yes, the real face of what america is has been revealed. The skin is off now. The meat is ripe and nasty and ready to fester right in all of our fool faces. It's not like living amidst open rot is anything new. I'm just not sure i can ever look certain people in the eye again. It's going to take a different kind of effort to remember how to smile and carry on. It's going to take a kind of person perhaps almost like who jesus is purported to have been."

Untitled Revenge Motivated Costumed Vigilantes Soundtrack
inspired by the less-than-inspired "mix tape" soundtracks of Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, and Suicide Squad.
as a huge fucking comic nerd, i found a lot to like about those films. as a huge fucking mix-tape soundtrack nerd, i found little to like about those films.
utilized properly, Mix Tape Soundtracks can add to the atmosphere of a film, as well as compliment the characters and the situations. John Waters, Martin Scorsese, Greg Araki, Quentin Tarrantino, David Lynch, Abel Ferrara, Seijun Suzuki, Sion Sono, and many others use pop songs (and not-so pop songs) in such a way that you can't imagine the scenes without them. the current crop of superhero films though seem to rely on the most obvious of A-Sides that have little-to-nothing to do with the events they are scoring.
initially, this playlist started as an alternate Suicide Squad playlist (hence tracks like "Ha Ha Ha" by Flipper, "I Started a Joke" by FNM, "Targets" by Rotten Sound, and others you could probably guess), but it quickly spun out into songs that could fit into any superhero narrative. a lot of these artists are on the more mainstream side, but i snuck in some underground metal/grind favorites (Meatwound, Triac, Dendritic Arbor, 9 Shocks Terror) cause another thing that's cool about mix-tape soundtracks is throwing a few curveballs and shedding light on some bands and artists that otherwise may go unnoticed.
mostly though, i just don't need to hear "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" or "Fortunate Son" ever again.

Is this first world musician’s privilege? Fuck you, no. You know what privilege is? Being the entitled asshole who wants shit for free or only if it’s collectable and doesn’t care if the route this garbage gets to them is littered with the shattered dreams and new alcoholism cases of label owners, record stores and musicians. Because it’s all about feeding the consumer and the consumers apparently are eating whatever the majors are telling them is special. What started as a well intended idea to bring attention to struggling business is having an opposite effect of trampling on independent music and its culture, it’s strangling those who are fighting to keep this culture free from conventional and corporate interests. And regardless of how many clicks it gets your website it’s nothing to fucking joke about.

VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENT; Lost 1990s Regional Hardcore Act
VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENT came to being around 1996/7, a time when "tough guy hardcore" was experiencing a surge with acts like FURY OF FIVE, 25 TA LIFE, CROWN OF THORNZ, and many others. V.I.S. was very much in that vein; chunky riffs with Roger Miret style vocals and a jocular attitude that seemed at odds with the ethos of GEN-1 hardcore acts. while clad in the sneakers, basketball shorts, and sports jerseys of many acts and fans of the day, V.I.S. added an additional air of mystery to their stage presence by wearing ski-masks and balaclavas, concealing their identities and putting forth a more dangerous image that intrigued the audience. the members of V.I.S. wore them at all times, so no one knew who they were or what they looked liked. the group also ran their voices through modulators, disguising their natural cadence and furthering their mysterious aesthetic.
like most of the bands in this genre, V.I.S. cut their teeth playing matinees and VFW Halls, always making sure to emphasis that they and their songs were "For The Kids". quickly amassing a sizable following on their shows alone, regional fans waited a little over a year before V.I.S. released any physical document of their music. at their much anticipated record release show, they sold out of their debut release.
there was no title, no songs listed on the sleeve of the LP, just the letters "V.I.S." in a varsity font and picture of a heavyset male holding a bullhorn. when the audience opened up the record and saw the contents inside, V.I.S.'s proclamations of being "For The Kids" took an alarmingly sinister turn.
it was revealed that their lyrics and album art were littered with graphic references to and photos of children in sexual situations. this tied into the photo on the LP's sleeve; Victor Salva; the genre film director who was found guilty of child molestation/possession of child pornography. as for the songs themselves, while still retaining the group's primary influences (Judge, Strife, Killing Time),they took on a much more noisy and vicious tone on the record than in a live setting, with piercing layers of noise and feedback omnipresent throughout the run time, going to places where Integrity had only whispered. having never mentioned the titles of the songs at their shows, their fanbase was disturbed to find that the songs they had been moshing to bore names like "Orphan Kinks", "Fetal Seizures", "Sperm Crater", "Sexualized Adolescent Loophole", and others lost to time.
like thieves in the night, V.I.S. disappeared in short order after the record release show. most of the albums were thrown away by the disgusted listeners, though some of the more "adventurous" types in the scene held on to their copies, making it a much sought of item among collectors of obscure hardcore ephemera and/or transgressive material. copies of their sole release can only be found as multi-generation rips in the far flung corners of the deep web, and rumors of the parties involved still persist, but no one has step forward to claim membership in the band. a popular thesis connects RAINCOATER frontman Richey Walker to the group, as they emerged some time after Walker's exit from that band.

takes me back to my late college days of scouring the interwebs for Black Mayonnaise d/ls. the Communion played with them this past July and they left quite an impression. looking forward to doing more with them in the future.
